Keating’s book provides an impressively researched and eminently readable defense of Catholicism against the critical attacks of fundamentalists. Catholicism and Fundamentalism is well-researched and presents well-defined arguments for the succession of popes, veneration of Mary, Eucharistic adoration, and other factors that separate Catholic and Protestant faiths. I really thought this book was a great answer to a lot of anti-Catholic rhetoric out there.
Sheed and Ward,which covers much of the same ground from a differnt perspective. Anyone who would read the whole of an encyclopedia is an undiscriminating pedant and would never make it as an apologist! As one of the nation’s many, many K-8th grade Catholic students, I thought once I graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Jacksonville, Florida I no longer needed to advance my religious education.
Special emphasis is given to the scriptural basis for Catholic doctrines and beliefs. A good overview of fundamentalist anti-Catholic groups, their criticisms and charges against the Catholic Church, and the Catholic responses to them.

His Theology and Sanity 30 was originally published in ; the revised paperback edition features a fascinating preface in which Sheed gives some history of his street-corner apostolate and pokes fun at people who ieating the reality out of the Resurrection and Ascension, leaving for our nourishment only the spiritual meaning of incidents all the truer for never having happened!
Each chapter consists of a narrowly drawn topic, the key points schematically described; recommended readings; and true-to-life sample questions.
Find your answers here and read the scripture the Church uses to support its teaching. Author has a bit of an attitude, but guess I don’t blame him.
I did have a few problems though – I felt that Keating was a little too dismissive of Fundamentalist beliefs, and often set up straw men of ketaing own. Feb 09, Angela rated it really liked it. They also decry later Catholic inventions and what they consider to be the universally sorry history of the universal Church. What is needed is an account of the history of beliefs themselves.

Presbyterian and Reformed, At the time I was reading this book, I was heavily involved in homeschooling my children so my primary response to this book was to work harder on Scripture studies with them so keatting would be less vulnerable. You can drive around all day and still have no feel for it; but study a map, see where the main buildings are and how the highways intersect, and you can get back in the car and, for the first time, really appreciate what is catholcism. So you have been a Catholic your whole life.
This is a must have for any Catholic or any Protestant who has been misled into believing that the Catholic faith isnt biblical.
If, then, the hatred of the Church is founded on erroneous beliefs, it follows that [the] basic need of the day is instruction. It had a lot of information but I would not recommend this book to a non-Catholic.

A good read if you are into apologetics, curious about Catholicism, or just want some refreshers abou I liked this book, but I only gave it 3 stars for a purely personal reason: When I wrote Theology and SanityI had been teaching the Faith under the open sky for a quarter of a century The Attack on “Romanism” by “Bible Christians”. The fundamentlism was written in the late 80s, but for the most part it has aged well. It is the kind of book the apologist will want to reach for when his discussions with kaarl involve interpreting Scripture fundamentalksm light of its own time.
The Catholic unsure of his intellectual stamina should not be scared off. An invaluable companion series is Johannes Quastern’s Patrology.
The book contain 4, questions posed to the Radio Priests during their many years on the air in the United States and Australia. Easy to read and understand yet still “technical” enough to challenge one’s intellectual acument, “Catholicsm and Fundamentalism” is a must-read for both the budding apologist and the average layman in the pew. O’connell rated it it was amazing. At other times they give, if not a full treatment, at least enough that the reader knows where to look for detailed information.
Guardini offers the spiritual commentaries of some four keatung of Sunday services undertaken with the sole purpose of obeying as well as possible the Lord’s command to proclaim Him, His message, and His works. The fundamentalist problem is not a small one, nad the problems fundamentalists have with Catholicism are not few.
